Writing Blog 5

I've gotten the chance to do more live drawings. While in Fayetteville, AR i was able to walk the streets of Dickson St and if you haven't ever been to Dickson st it's pretty much a happening place full of street musicians playing their songs and others while College students drink and rave.

I first came across an older man playing guitar and i was lucky enough to draw him.

Then i came along a young lady

Going back to my disorder series i decided to return to my own disorder, Schizophrenia. Last Crit it was pointed out that I was looking at each of these disorder from the view of an outsider but i've been illustrating these images as a surreal idea of their medical def. as well as my own views from what i can see in videos and read but I decided i needed to push further and press the issue more. Something that came up a lot with Schizophrenia was this statement "The voices in my head told me to do it". That reacurring statement seemed to be the key to what should be drawn.

I've also been trying to push further with the sleep disorder Insomnia.

Ever since i've met Jackie she's had her own art style and she has never left that. Her work always has her in it. Bright Neon Colors. They always remind me of posters. She has improved compostionaly over the time I've known her.

Crit 3: Writing Blog 4

I've been working on sketches for the next part of the disorder series. The sleep disorders. Which have been kind of a nightmare figuring out how to visually show. Pun not intended because you know Nightmare disorder is a sleep disorder but moving on. I've been working on Insomnia because i feel have the best start on that besides the nightmare disorder. Here are the sketches for that.

I'm leaning either towards the clocks in the eyes being broken or fingers coming out from inside the eye lids forcing them to stay open. I like how they both are conceptually.

I've also been working on live drawings still.

The 1st is my niece caught in my little brother's jacket which  was pretty funny and the second was while we were at a game and there was a guy that looked sorta like me so i drew as fast as i could and i used myself later to fill in some of the details. I'm still trying to figure out how i'm going to include the unconscious drawings into these but when i do i believe that a much larger canvas is needed since most of these have all been about the size of a standard sketch pad.

Lastly while working on my gif for Illustration i experimented with black ink and white gel pen on top of tracing paper and it came out very interesting so i believe i want to look further into this process.

Mattie Parrigon's artist journalism series is a beautiful addition to her library of work. She's taking time to learn about the lives of those that many people have shut out and forgotten about over the years. It's not only a great art project for herself but has been a lively experience for the people she has spent her own personal time interviewing. I think it's a great direction for her work.

Writing 6 (blog posts) Artist Lecture

I attended Teresa J Harris's artist lecture over her show in the gallery Storytellers. She explained that the inspiration behind the series was in indeed as the show name introduced all about stories whether it was biographic, fiction or non-fiction. She seemed a very well spook person but from what i saw she seemed to get choked up or very emotional about this series while the was giving her lecture but she did well. Her presentation was professional. Her power point was well made and she had a good arch explaining where her current work started from. I didn't ask any questions. I didn't feel the need to. The stories about her work are in her pieces themselves.
