Crit 3

In Drawing with Ink Class we have to do 3 9x12s all with a relating theme. Trying to have a bit of fun I went with Alice in Wonderland. 2 of the compositions turned out pretty well but 1 got out of wack.

 In Comics class we just had to design a cover to go along with our up coming 4 page comics. Just Another bit of fun

Here's my Schizo project I've been working on outside class. As you can tell the Canvas is huge and this is the 1st time I've worked anything this size so i'm trying to figure out how to work around that. It's not very far along either because I changed the composition after I realized the 1st composition was similar to what I'm comfortable.

Crit # 2 Spring 2014

Last Crit it was brought to me attention that the art work I was doing for my own personal work being the importance of it's nature to me was far too small. So in my Work Concerning Schizophrenia I've hand made a canvas that's 9foot by 5 foot. Another thing was pointed out to me was the fact that a lot of my work has been really clear and precise while The Mental Disorder is self is messy and uncontrolled so I'm going to be doing a lot of half hazard things when I go to paint the piece.

here's the new sketch for the Schizo painting. Tim Burton is going to be a major influence in this.

Another Piece i'm going to be starting is a Memorial Painting for a dear friend of mine that just passed away. Once it's finished it'll go to Daniel's family

In Comics we had to do a comic over Love so I ended up doing a comic over Personal Experience

In Drawing with Ink we've been working on Dry brushing and Ink Wash. I'm far more fond of Ink Wash

Crit #1 Spring 2014

so I've been pretty swamped with Comics and Inking class so here's some of the stuff I've been working on in there 1st cause there's a lot lot. Been working with a nib for the 1st time and a little more with a brush. I like both

Ok now My own personal work I got a little off track with 1 piece I'm working on because I got stuck on thumbnails and roughs for my schizophrenia work. Love was in the air for the 1st 1 and then I'm working on expressing the things seen and heard by schizos as well as the paranoid personality

 

 

 

 

What I'm about as of Now

I'm Jared E. Jennings. I'm here now in my Junior year working towards my Com Art degree. My work has been based mostly on the complexity of the human brain. Our processing power is far greater then any other species of animal on the planet. A long with that we have more motor functions allowing for more coordination. Everything that humanity has come to be in this day and age is because of how the brain works after millions of years of evolution.

Lately I've been more interested in the deflects that accrue. My family has a history of Schizophrenia and Alcholism. My focus for my current work is Schizophrenia thought being that I'm a very likely carrier. So I want to further understand how Schizophrenia works beyond my own experience. I'm trying to produce work that shows what a person suffering from Schizophrenia goes through while trying to convey how causes the deflect.

Artist that I look towards for inspiration are Dali, Durer, Jim Warren, Thomas Hart Benton, Lenora Carrington. I'm more taken in by Surrealism and Expressionism then any other art movement because to me it takes in the human imagination much more then any other art movement.

Really just have been working on class work. Mostly Drawing for the time being. Been working on Plotting shadows as well as reflections.

I have other ideas just haven't done sketches just yet for them. It's my own personal work.

Artist Lecture thingy i attended and what not

Matthew Dercole and Angela Deiffenbach were the 2 artists that gave lectures that I've attended. Their work is interesting and tackles area's of life that most people find strange which is why i really enjoyed there work. It's out of the norm. It's great to meet other artists that take the strange approach. They found their calling and they're sticking to it even tho it's not main stream

Matthew Dercole's work were mostly 3D. He worte a whole story book and then created artwork for the pages and then actually bound the book. His pieces involing the man finding beauty in the carcus of a deer was quite interesting.

Angela Deiffenbach looked mostly towards forms i think. She showed alot of pieces that where like the genetic make up of mechince which was pretty cool. She also swallowed a small camera which took pictures of her internal body. She then made a rump out of clay and made it so she could display it on the wall placeing it so low that if you're curious enough to look into the hole you had to bend over. when you looked in ou saw a slide show of all the pictures that were taken internally of her.
